Ex-Scientology story #107, “they have very little regard for people.”

True stories of false religion.

Edward Reilly spent almost four years in Scientology, some of it in the Sea Org. He was recruited in Philadelphia then went to NY.  Stories in this series show the systematic abuse of Sea Org members.  Edward has this to say about it.

I was working long hours and getting paid practically nothing and as far as companionship, I had very few friends because most of the people I worked with were reluctant to talk about anything but scientology but only in a positive light. I saw several people leave and route out but you couldn’t talk to them about it . . . Yes,they have very little regard for people who have worked hard and given their lives to scientology, I feel sorry for the people who have given decades of their lives to the COS and have been discarded like criminals and to add insult to injury charged exorbitant amounts of money for benefits they received while being slaves.

Ex-Scientologist story #106, Biggest “Win” was leaving.

True stories of a nasty cult.

Maxim ‘Mox’ Zbitnoff had been a Scientologist for many years, his level of training was Class 3 OT5, he had been taking courses in a number of locations including St Hill, ASHO, AOLA, Celebrity Center, LA Org, CC Portland.

What did Max think of his time in Scientology?

Some of the biggest wins I had were leaving the church and realizing that there was no one, no technology that would ‘save’ me or deliver me to some elevated state other what I am.

Like many others he kept waiting for the light to be switched on.

The staff…. if scientology was what it says then why were they struggling so much. How come all these ‘releases’ and ‘clears’ including myself didn’t act like the glowing descriptions of the states. I figured that if we just persisted then eventually the magic’ would turn on.

Ex-Scientologist story #105, More trouble in France.

Nooooo, not in the salad!!

ROME, March 1, 2008 (AFP) Translated by Roger Gonnet.  Here high members of “the most ethical people on the planet” were caught in some criminality.  Ever wonder why Scientology has the reputation it has? Without knowing more I am going to guess that she was a victim of the “Introspection RunDown.”  This was the quack cure that killed Lisa McPherson.

The police officers had discovered on 21st January Martine Boublil, sister of Claude Boublil, an important member of the church of Scientology in France, locked up in a room filled with rubbish. Initially identified as being of Tunisian origin, she had been found half-naked and sleeping on an mattress infested with vermin, according to the local police force.

Four French people, a woman and three men, identified as members of the Church of Scientology and suspected of having detained Martine Boublil against her will, had been arrested  then, a spokesman of the prefecture of local police force indicated at the time.

and this,  George Fenech (UMP), vice-president of the parliamentary group on cults, proposed on Saturday the creation of a parliamentary board of inquiry into Scientology after a Frenchwoman was held prisoner by members of the cult in Sardinia.

“This recent affair casts suspicion once more on the Church of Scientology with a French victim, Martine Boublil, claiming serious infringements of her freedom and her physical integrity, and indicates the real dangers of this organization”, the deputy said in an official statement.

M. Fenech “will present in the French National Assembly a motion for a resolution creating a parliamentary board of inquiry to determine the real nature of the activities of this movement, its methods of operation, its sources of financing and in a more general way if the organization respects the laws of the French Republic”, the text adds.

Martine Boublil, held by force in Sardinia by members of the Church of Scientology and released at the end of January by the Italian police force, “will soon be repatriated to France”, French diplomatic sources in Rome indicated on Saturday.

For some reason Scientology has always been at odds with the French legal system.  Here is what Wikipedia has to say:

In 1978, L. Ron Hubbard was convicted in absentia by French authorities of engaging in fraud, fined 35,000 French Francs and sentenced to four years in prison. The head of the French Church of Scientology was convicted at the same trial and given a suspended one-year prison sentence.

Ex-Scientologist #104, “Crazy OTs”

True Stories About a False Religion.

Teresa Summers was a longtime Scientologist who left in 1999.  The following year she became a staff member of the Lisa McPherson Trust.

I had been in Scientology for 20 years and when I came out it was difficult. I went through a lot of crap that I have now learned many people go through when they leave Scientology. Depression, anger, self-recrimination. Recognition that I had been duped; recognition that I had allowed myself to be duped. Repulsion as I educated myself about this organization and all the secret, horrible things they do to people. Repulsion at myself for being so damn stupid….

She was able to help people with a variety of things mostly concerned with exit counseling.  Teresa did however, encounter the OTs, the big thetans at the top of the cult.  These are the folks who are supposed to have great powers beyond what any of us can do.  They can travel in time, do things outside their body, read minds, speak to ghosts and spirits and all other manner of marvels.  Nobody has seen these things though, yet the OTs have them for sure!

Crazy OTs.  I mean it.  I am simply astonished by the number of people who have audited OT VII for YEARS and are physically ill or breaking down mentally and emotionally.  The LMT has received more than one call from an OT VII from a psychiatric ward.

Update:  Since the above was posted I found some comments made by Teresa in an article about children in Scientology.  This is an excellent article on the subject.  Here is a sample.  Hubbard was against breast-feeding,

“Hubbard’s infamous Barley Water formula is another example of interference in natural processes.  Hubbard declared that “The largest cause of upset in a baby’s early life is just rations.  As an old hand at this, I have straightened out more babies who were cross, not sleeping, getting sick and all, than it was easy to keep a record of.”  Hubbard dismissed existing methods of feeding babies on “bad-tasting” milk powder formulae with lots of carbohydrates or the thin breast-milk of a mother exhausted through overwork. [Scientology Handbook 1994, 28]  “Breast feeding babies may have a nostalgic background, particularly to a Freudian oriented medico, but real breast milk again is usually a poor ration”.
