Joseph Grieboski, “Huffington Post” blogger: whore for Scientology.

Joe Grieboski (picture from Village Voice Blog)

It’s been a tough year for Scientology; and as close as it is to the end of 2011 the bad news keeps on coming.  Today we found out that “The Huffington Post” had been printing stories by a blogger in the pay of Scientology.  More egg on the face for the dictator of that nasty cult, David Miscavige.  This story was verified by a couple of defectors who were at one time in a position to know who was doing what for the cult.

I have always maintained that the true products of Scientology are lawsuits and scandals.  I am in no danger of being proved wrong, LOL.

Scientology Document Suggests

Huffington Post Religion Blogger has been

 on the Church’s Payroll

By Tony Ortega, Wed., Dec. 21 2011 at 2:38 PM

Former Scientology executive Marty Rathbun made another leak of formerly secret, internal Scientology documents today, and this time he claims to have uncovered that a Huffington Post blogger who defends minority religions, and Scientology, has been on the church’s payroll.

That accusation has been made previously about Joseph K. Grieboski, who blogs at Huffington Post’s Religion section and runs something he calls the Institute on Religion and Foreign Policy. In 2009, former Scientologist Gerry Armstrong accused Grieboski of taking money from Scientology, claiming that he’d talked to a former Institute employee who told him of the connection.

And now Rathbun comes forward with a document from Scientology’s Office of Special Affairs — the church’s intelligence and covert operations wing — which suggests that Grieboski was employed to actively temper anti-Scientology sentiment in European countries. Previously, we’ve authenticated Rathbun’s leaks of OSA documents, including spying operations against Marc Headley, Mark Ebner, and South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

And besides, another former top Scientology official tells the Voice that he has personal information about Grieboski’s employment with the church.   I’ve e-mailed Grieboski at his consulting business and I left a phone message at the Institute, and I’m hoping to get him on the phone soon to discuss Rathbun’s OSA document.

I’ve also been in touch with the Huffington Post, and I’m helping their media relations team understand the background on this somewhat complex story. They have been very helpful, and I’m hoping to get a statement from them at any time.

What I do know is that Grieboski is not a “featured” writer at HuffPo’s Religion section, and his posts don’t seem to generate a large amount of comments.

However, it was a post he did in May that first brought him to my attention. A fellow Scientology watcher pointed out that Grieboski’s reaction to a task force report by Israel’s Special Ministry of Welfare and Social Affairs calling for closer watch on destructive groups was surprisingly voluminous and agitated…

“No democracy would admit to being intolerant of minority faiths or opposed to religious liberty. The tactic used to discriminate against targeted minority faiths in some countries is to redefine the notion of ‘religion’ to exclude disfavored minority groups by labeling them as so-called ‘cults’ or ‘sects.’ This is the tactic embraced by the Task Force in the Report,” Grieboski wrote.

Grieboski didn’t mention Scientology by name, but he did lambaste claims that groups use “mental manipulation.”

Grieboski’s use of the Huffington Post to go after something so apparently obscure — a government task force report in Israel — did make me curious. So I looked around and found Gerry Armstrong’s 2009 open letter to Grieboski. Armstrong, who suffered almost unbelievable harassment at the hands of Scientology’s legal corps (overseen, ironically enough, by Rathbun), claimed that he had talked to a man who had worked as Grieboski’s former public relations man, and who confirmed to Armstrong that Grieboski (or his Institute) was receiving substantial Scientology payments. I tried to contact the PR man, but he didn’t return my call.

Corporate Scientology Mercenary – Joe Grieboski

Do you want to know how David Miscavige can imprison and torture dozens of people in the morning on any given day and the same afternoon receive reports how the US State Department is enraged over Human Rights violations against poor David and his cult?   In a word, MONEY.

For more than a decade this gentleman who touts himself as a Nobel peace prize candidate has been on Miscavige’s payroll covering up Miscaviges serial, continuous Human Rights violations.  He is but one of a team of mercenaries, including a number of former US Department of Justice lawyers, who receive thousands of dollars weekly to cover up for David Miscavige’s crimes.

God! Was I tired!

I’d been working for eleven solid, ghastly days. And not just days; eleven nights too. With maybe two hours’ sleep on a hard floor in Saint Hill every twenty-four hours. I hadn’t had a bath or a square meal in all that time either. I felt like death.

It was Saturday, 30th, August, 1968. August Bank Holiday.

I had two jobs at Saint Hill – Dissemination Secretary, World Wide and Dissemination Secretary, Evening and Weekend Foundation. For all the big titles, I still felt like death.

An Open Weekend was going on at Saint Hill over the holiday and I conned my way into getting home because I was beginning to look and act like a zombie. It’s not at all good for Scientology’s public image for visitors, newcomers and newspaper reporters to see a zombie walking about the place.

Why had I been there for 264 hours non-stop?

Because on one or other of my jobs I had been in a Condition of Liability and under the justice system of Scientology, when you are in a Condition of Liability, you just stay there and work your way out of it.

I didn’t give a damn for Scientology or all its sweet little Ethics systems. If I had told any of those crazy Scientologists what they could do with their Condition of Liability, I’d have been declared an even lower condition – Enemy, a Suppressive person; then I would have had to disconnect from my children. I had been declared an S.P. in April 1968 and had not seen my children for a week. I couldn’t stand the thought of going through all that again. Mindbending self-recrimination, degradation. No. I would go ahead and act out my part and hope to get out of Scientology painlessly.

I got home at 8.30 p.m. The children were asleep. I went up to see them. They were so beautiful it hurt. I felt I had failed them. If they woke up now and saw me like this, I’d feel ashamed.

I went downstairs again, to bed. Ever since I had been declared a Suppressive Person in April, I had not been allowed to sleep with Rosalie. After all, she was the Assistant Guardian and I was an ex-S.P.!

I fell into bed and into sleep.

A loud thumping on the door. It went on and on, imperiously. In this half-awake, half-asleep state, I was terrified. What in God’s name was going on? I tried to shut the noise out but it still went on.

Finally it stopped and I heard Rosalie opening the front door. After a few moments she came in.

“There’s an Ethics Officer outside, Cyril.”

I reached for my watch. “It’s half-past ten! Tell him to go away.”

“He wants you to go for a Committee of Evidence.”

“Tell him to get lost. I’m bone tired. I’m in bed. I’m asleep. I may need some things right now but I do not need a Comm. Ev.”

Ros sat down on the bed. It was the nearest we had been to each other in months. She looked concerned – almost affectionate. Ye Gods! What a life!

“You had better go. It could be hard for you if you don’t go.”

“Ros, do something for me. Tell that stupid bastard at the door that if he doesn’t get out of my house now, I’ll call the police and charge him with malingering, breaking and entry, attempted murder, trying to rape my wife and otherwise making a bloody nuisance of himself.”

Rosalie fixed me with a pitying look and went out to talk to Peter Warren, Ethics Officer World Wide.

I tried to get back to sleep but it was only acting. There was a cold and resigned fear in me. I knew I would go to Saint Hill and give evidence at their Comm. Ev. and I had a deep foreboding that this would be the end for me.

Ros came back.

“Go out and talk to him. Do it for me.”

Do it for Rosalie. Do it for my wife. Do it because she used the same surname as me. Do what any good Scientologist would do. I jumped out of bed. I had pyjamas on which was nice for Ros.

“Since he is such a thick-brained nit, I’ll go and tell him myself or maybe I’ll just kick him a few times.”

I went into the hall with a stern look to my face but really just wishing they would all clear off and leave me to get some sleep. These people needed to be put over somebody’s knee and spanked hard.

“Peter, I’m not going to Saint Hill or anywhere else with you. I was at Saint Hill two hours ago and if you wanted me you should have got me then. Right now I’m here and you had better clear off rapidly or I’ll do something violent to you like castrating you without anaesthetics.”

He adopted that patient, pitying look that’s a stock-in trade of Scientologists, especially ones like Peter Warren. He was dripping wet from the rain and I thought that was justice even if nothing else was.

“It will go very bad for you if you don’t come. In any case I have been given very strict instructions to bring you in.”

“You take your instructions right back to the idiot who gave them to you and tell him you failed. For once the Scientology Gestapo failed.”

That was as withering as I could make it with my eyeballs burning with tiredness, but it did not shake his determination. After all, he had the weight and majesty of Scientology Ethics behind him. I nearly vomited.

“I must bring you back for this Comm. Ev. There’s a taxi outside and I must bring you back.”

“For Crissake, don’t you understand anything? I was asleep. I haven’t slept properly for eleven days. What the hell are you trying to do – kill me?”

“I’m not trying to kill you. You must come to Saint Hill with me to give evidence at a legally convened Committee of Evidence. The more you argue, the worse it will be for you.”

Cyril Vosper had been a Scientologist for 14 years when this happened.  He knew the organization about as well as any living person.  But in the end he found it was not a system of knowledge, it was a system of abuse.  Would it raise humanity to a new golden age?  Vosper did not think so, it was more likely that if the world used Hubbard’s tech it would sink back into the dark ages.

This book was published in 1971, long before the current rash of “tell all” books about this cult.  At that time the “fair game” tactics of Scientology had some real teeth and it took a lot of real courage on his part to get this book into print.  Of course Hubbard went wild at this attack and used ever means, fair or foul, to stop Vosper from telling his story.

This book provides an answer to those who say how wonderful Scientology was back when Hubbard was in control of things.  All of the wrongs and evils listed in this book were the result of Hubbard and nis minions; little David Miscavige cannot be blamed for anything listed between the covers of this book.  Too bad Free Zoners.  Hubbard had feet of clay.

This book is available for online reading;

Ex-Scientologist story #380, Gary Brown: “I renounce The Cult of Scientology.”

I’d like to make it public that I renounce The Cult of Scientology. I regret ever helping them or having anything to do with them. I AM Gary Brown of South Shields

former staff member of AOSH UK Sunderland New Era Publicatipons .  . .

Who wants to hear about the death of their c/s. A horrible story. Died the same time as Lisa McPherson. Just as gruesome, just as callous. He wanted to leave them but they wouldn’t let him leave. They (Mauro Calcioli, Hilary Hoogewuerf and whoever else had influence over those two people) When the c/s became crippled the ed saids we don’t want any cripples in our organisation. They blamed the c’ses mother for making him crippled. Calling her an SP. Mrs Dresner, mother of Simon Dresner, probably was an ordinary lady.

How come all of these Scientology deaths are someone elses fault ?

Or who wantts to hear about Author Services cheating to get Hubbards books on the best seller lists ? The time when the publishing staff had inside knowledge on which stores sales would be used to make the Sunday Times Best Seller List in England. Then the staff, including me went to those stores and bought loads of copies each. We really fooled the Sunday Times and got The Invaders Plan on the best seller list 🙂

That’s all for now. God rebukes you Hubbard, L Ron Hubbard IS the false prophet

I asked the Cult to expel me and declare me a suppressive person. But so far they haven.t. Perhaps the master’s don’t like to get to get orders from a “junior” superior.

Gary (ps any sea org following me will get their head punched right off their shoulders, and that includes Bob Keenan who followed me in London 2 years ago Don’t do it.)

This 2004 Internet posting can be found here:

For added fun I have included an interview with Jenna Miscavige Hill, the niece of Little Davy.

Ex-Scientologist story #379, “Your like the Raelians, except they admit upfront about space aliens.”

You come back? Thanks for warning me, I’ll be sure to hide the silverware.

This letter by Damian Arntzen goes right to the point; he is sick of Scientology and doesn’t want anything whatsoever to do with it again.

Date: Thu, 27 Feb 2003 21:48:27 +0800

Dear Carmen/Every-other-OSA-goon-who-reads-this,

Monday of this week found a letter in my future Mother-In-Laws mail from the E/O PEF. She claimed that was the only address she had to contact me and my fiancée. Funny, obviously you guys never talked about me (What with me being an “evil SP” and all), otherwise she would know damn well there are quicker ways of getting in contact with me.

We were being offered a chance to repent before March 1st or else our declares go uplines. Again, another outpoint – How many times have I stated and made it so clear that I am not coming back? So either you two never discussed the quite-overt activities of me; the “evil SP”; or you two have some *serious* misunderstoods somewhere. I’m quite confident that my fiancee views things the same way. I realise that creative writing is *very* difficult; especially when we have no criminal records and so you’d have to fabricate such stuff; but how long has this taken?

If I had the time, I’d show my good intentions and my ability to remain in good standing in one place – By picketing your org. Lucky for you however, such cannot happen just yet. But it’s a definite possibility. You’d be surprised how many people here really *don’t* like your silly little con.

I even have a good analogy happening – Your like the Raelians, except they admit upfront about space aliens etc. You guys charge thousands for the same information.

As a final note – Please remove me, my fiancée and her mother from your mailing lists. We’ve been in contact with a lawyer regarding your unsolicited junk mail, and will pursue it further if you do not cease.

Yours Sincerely, Damian Arntzen

The above letter can be found here:

For added fun here is a picket in NYC from 2008.  Scientology hates pickets; so if you ever want to get under their skin just join one for a few hours.
